Q. Who is Zanzibar’s most famous glam-rockin’ son?
A. Freddie Mercury.
Yep, it was news to me too. Throughout this very conservative town are scattered proud monuments to Freddie and to Queen, including a restaurant called Mercury’s. The house where Freddie grew up is now home to a souvenir shop which trumpets its Mercury lineage triumphantly.

I collected that interesting fact about Freddie Mercury many many years ago, and to my eternal regret, was unable to conjure it at probably the only time in my life it would have provided me with monetary reward - on a $450 skins question in pub trivia. As multiple questionable laws dictated would happen, I remembered the answer approximately one second before the quizmaster let everyone in on the secret.
