Mas mas mas Massillia!

I’ve been in Marseilles for the last few days, a city I’d been looking forward to visiting for so long that that I worried about high expectations. A port city both French and Mediterranean, settled by the Phoenecians in 600 BC, home of the bouillabaisse, Cézanne’s sunshine, rough around the edges… of course I’ve been wanting to visit Marseilles. Friends, I am happy to report that the city exceeded all expectations. I remain slightly stunned by the water, the forts, the aperitive, the locals, the boats, the cathedrals, the boat jousting...

In company of the lovely Kym, I ate what is, thus far, the definitive bouillabaisse of my life. Once I have fully digested the bouillabaisse, I will write all about it. For now, suffice it to say that it was definitely a two post meal.

And then? Tomorrow I head to Aix-en-Provence to meet Will and hopefully to bond with a bicycle, Flann O’Brien style. I will be Provençal until Friday on which day I will board a ferry in Marseilles for Ajaccio and another woofing spell in Corsica. Life on the Mediterranean is, as they say in the Bible, good.
